Joburgsite.com is the home of My (Art) Burg, an audiovisual
exhibition project about Johannesburg. Print sale in support of exhibition Photographer Eva-Lotta Jansson's website
Photographer Eva-Lotta Jansson asks some of Johannesburg's long-time artists, including Nadine Gordimer
and David Goldblatt, to chose specific Johannesburg locations that express their relationship - and continued
creative engagement - with the city. Rather than celebrity portraits, the resulting images are a series of
environmental portraits of the city, as shown to us by the artists, and accompanied by audio recordings of their stories.
Inspired by the artist tales, spanning years of the city's history, the photographer goes back to some of the Johannesburg
areas with her camera to see who lives there now. Contrary to the notion that downtown Johannesburg is a decaying,
has-been place, too unsafe to even visit, this set of photographs shows a new generation of children living and playing here.
They sometimes show interesting role reversals whilst also echoing times past - as described by the artists' stories.
My (Art) Burg opens on February 24, 2011, at the Bensusan Museum of Photography at Museum Africa.
